-I've seen a lot of videos recently about depression.
And I want to be able to give some advice on how
to stop depression, and I want to be able to give you help.
But honestly, I can't.
The only thing I can offer you is my story.
Back in 2009, I had just left Liverpool.
I was living there for eight years.
And due to some problems at home with the family,
I left and moved to Essex.
Now the place I lived in Essex was 280 miles away
from Liverpool.
I was leaving my friends.
I was leaving my school.
I left my pets.
I left everything behind.
As a result, I was incredibly lonely for four or five months,
and it got me really depressed.
Now the way I saw out of being depressed was not something
I'd ever recommend anyone ever do.
What I did to get myself out of depression
was I tried to kill myself.
One night, I just thought, that's enough.
I don't want to be depressed anymore.
The only way out I can see is to go downstairs right now
and kill myself.
So that's exactly what I did.
Now obviously, that didn't work.
I'm still here today, but I was in hospital for a week.
Now during that week, I had revelations in my mind
about who actually cared about me.
I had my family, I had a few friends,
and I had people who were upset about what I did.
Now the entire reason I tried to kill myself
was because I felt alone.
And the act of doing it, trying to kill myself,
and the repercussions of that made
me realize how not alone I was.
Now I'm not saying by any means if you're
depressed the only way out of it is try and kill yourself.
What I'm saying is appreciate what you have.
Just try and draw from the love that you
have from people, because that is
what I did as a result of my "escape."
Now a lot of people cut themselves
as a means of escape.
A lot of people do other methods of self-harm,
and mine was the ultimate.
And I really don't recommend doing any of them,
because there are other ways.
Now as I said at the beginning of the video,
I'm not an expert.
I can't offer you any help.
What I can do is just say I got through it, and you can too.
I really hope you get something from this video,
and I promise the next video won't be as serious.
Thanks for watching.
