Smart home technology is the talk of the town and CES this year. Once the stuff of science
fiction, this futuristic vision of intelligent appliances is becoming a reality.
From toasters to toothbrushes and treadmills to televisions, there are connected innovations
for every room in a connected home, and your bedroom is no exception.
We spend a third of our lives in our bed, and considering the importance of quality
sleep to overall health, bringing connected technology to sleep experiences is very smart,
indeed.
Now, enter the smartphone, which is furthering its status as the centerpiece of today's connected
lifestyle by putting a familiar face on those new technologies. Smartphone apps are making
the connected home easy, convenient, and in some cases, just fun!
Drew Baldwin:It's just kind of gel this year and we're going to see in 2014, every single
device is going to become a smart device. As we and our homes become more connected,
and our lives become more connected, there's going to be a lot more seamless integration.
I think that this year, the challenge is going to be to solve all these different parts,
but I think now all the puzzle pieces are here. It's just a matter of putting them into
place.
One innovation receiving a warm reception and multiple awards at CES this year: the
Sleep Number x12 bed with SleepIQ technology. It combines four sleep enhancing technologies
into one simple platform that tracks and monitors your sleep, helping you to decide what changes
to make to your daily routine, to get the best night sleep of your life.
Annie Bloomquist: We needed it to be simple and intuitive, from design but also functionality.
And not get complicated because there was so much technology in the bed. So, this really
is the ultimate sleep experience, and at the same time, very easy to use, and therefore,
life changing.
We'll see you tomorrow with more CES updates!
