Hello my name is Carol Sevier Freshman Engineering Coordinator at Boise State University
the following information is designed for prospective clients to explain the FUSE program
and how you can become involved
FUSE is a program for first year engineering students providing them with an opportunity
to contribute to the community in a meaningful way
through the application of the engineering design process FUSE students working with an
individual client
will design develop and deliver a solution to a real-world problem
adaptive design problems are especially well suited to the FUSE program
since off-the-shelf solutions don't always meet an individuals need
FUSE students may modify an existing product or developing a new product to meet those needs
past projects include
some of the following
a door opener device that allows Josiah and his service dog Sabrina to easily enter
non-accessible doorways
A device to hold bowls in place allowing David to mix ingredients and cook with ease
other projects can assist more than one individual such as this functional activities bench
which was developed for the Boise VA Medical Centers Occupational Therapy Department
individuals interested in participating in the FUSE program should be aware of the
following
there are no out-of-pocket expenses for clients that choose to participate in the program
clients will be required to meet with students at various times at a location of the clients
choosing throughout the program
projects are selected to ensure that they are of an appropriate scope and scale for freshmen
students to complete in the allotted time
