THE FOOTPRINT OF LA SALLE ALSO IN COLOMBIA In every task we undertake, we strive to give
life to our motto: "vbi labor, ibi virtus"; where there is work, there is virtue. In the
Technological School Technical Central Institute, we train creative and competent people in
the technical, technological and engineering areas, capable of solving problems through
applied research. In 1896, with the arrival of the Brothers
of the Christian Schools, a path, which today is still under construction, begins to be
strolled. The school of Arts and Crafts is inaugurated in 1904, becoming the first in
the country forming technicians, with 4 years of duration. In 1911, the Engineering programs
begin, graduating the first professionals in 1916, and 150 engineers approximately until
1931, in the fields of electricity, mechanics, textile and decorative industrial art; being
graduated for the industry, in a non-university institution in Colombia . The Faculty of Engineering
was then moved after 1931 to National University. Around 1957, the first Industrial Technical
Promotion graduates. In 1977, higher education in The Technological School reborn, then called
Central Technical Institute, with the formation of professional technicians and graduates
in some fields as electromechanics. From 2006, the Institute becomes the first official Technological
School in the country, having the mission, since that time, to train professionals for
innovation and technological development in Colombia. Currently it trains professionals
in Electromechanics, Machine Design, Industrial Processes, Systems and Mechatronics at three
levels: professional technician, professional and technology or engineering. It also has
programmees of professional technical specialization in Network Construction of Medium Voltage
Electric Energy Distribution, Industrial instrumentation and Industrial Maintenance: in addition to
an initial basic level, which is the industrial technical school.
The School has been characterized by having an adequate infrastructure to form professionals
with extensive experience and good acceptance by industry. Besides it has a body of teachers
with extensive academic experience and quality training.
For the development of its training, students have workshops and laboratories specialized
in technical drawing, electricity and electronics, casting, modelling, industrial mechanics,
automotive mechanics, metalworking, systems and computing, electrical machines, heat treatments,
instrumentation, physics, chemistry, biology, numerical control, pneumatics, mechanical
machines, metrology, design, languages among others.
In 2008, it is recognized by UNESCO in the area of Technical and Professional education,
as well as by the Ministry of National Education Award, the Quality of Education. This latest
award is awarded again in 2011 and 2012. It administers a web station, which is on
the air 24 hours, characterized as a means of expression and information in the Community.
It was awarded by Subterranica Colombia, as the best station website in 2011.
Moreover, it has the Center of Research and Transfer of Technology, being the responsible
of promoting, supporting, coordinating as well as guiding research activity and technology
transfer in the institution; especially promoting the conformation of research groups, study
groups or interest groups. The Centre of the Library and Educational
Resources has a basic bibliographic material development distributed in: General Collection,
Reserve Collection, Collection of Reference and Special Collections, Industrial Catalogues,
Higher Education Promoted Thesis Work, Serials (periodicals), Collection of Photographs (photo
Library) and Teaching Aids. The same as in the area of educational resources, turning
it into a tool for increasing the academic orientation.
Welfare University Bureau, is conceived as the set of programs that promote the integral
formation, human development and quality of life of the students, teachers, managers,
administrative staff, and other members of the educational community of the ITC technological
school, through programmees, projects, settings, services and activities oriented from teaching,
research and institutional social projection. The Technological School Technical Central
Institute is one of the most important public educational institutions of the country, highlighted by its high professional
and social standards, result of an educational process of quality and integrated training,
which allows us to project ourselves as a competitive institution, fostering competences
in the labour, industrial, social and environmental field.
