Blackboard Collaborate is a synchronous tool that allows users from anywhere to
communicate and share content in real time.
Blackboard Collaborate rooms can be accessed in two ways: your moderator
can send you a direct link to the room,
or you can access the room through a course's communicate tab.
Click the link you have been provided
or the title of the room you wish to join in the ANGEL nugget.
If you are accessing the room through a direct link in your email,
you will be asked to enter your display name, which will display to all users
in the room.
You will be prompted to open a JAVA applet.
When your Collaborate session window opens, it's recommended that you test your
audio.
Click the audio setup wizard button in the audio and video box heading and
follow the directions to do so.
You will see a list of participants on the left, which will include your name.
The buttons above allow you to participate actively in the session.
The first button allows you to use a number of visual response characters,
like smiley faces or approval buttons, which display next to your name.
The next button will let you step away from the session, but keep the window
open for a quick return.
The next button is a way to raise your hand to get your moderator's attention,
and the final button lets you answer poll questions with checkboxes.
Just below the participants area, you may live chat with other session members.
The middle of the page will change, depending on what your moderator chooses
to display.
He or she may share a whiteboard with you, share presentations or documents, or
take you to a website in real time.
There are many other capabilities you have if your moderator grants them
to you, like the ability to share your desktop or use your webcam to speak to
the room.
To learn about these, take a look at the Participant Handbook provided by
Blackboard.
