Before exiting the patient room
clean soiled areas of your suit with bleach wipes
Dispose of the wipes, foot covers and and patient care gloves
in a biohazard bag.
On exiting the patient room, step directly into
the large biohazard bag that has been placed
in a plastic tub for stability.
Your doffing partner will first carefully remove the tape from your cuffs.
During this process you should keep your arms low and over the biohazard bag.
Every disposable item removed is to be dropped directly into the biohazard bag.
The PAPR battery pack, tubing and belt are the only non-disposible items.
Keep the PAPR switched on and undo the PAPR belt.
Place the PAPR unit on a stable surface.
Your doffing partner will next wipe the PAPR tubing,
battery pack and belt with bleach wipes.
During this procedure you must not allow the tubing to touch your suit.
Pull the outer layer of the hood up.
Your doffing partner may now unzip the suit.
With your doffing partners assistance you can now start to remove the suit.
Begin at the neck and roll the suit outwards and away from the body.
Once the outer shoulders are reached
begin to remove the suit by rolling down towards the biohazard bag.
When the suit is pulled from the arms
the outer, extra protection gloves, will remain in place,
but the cuffs will fold over.
Be careful not to touch scrubs or yourself
at this time with the gloves in place.
Continue to remove the suit until the ankles are reached.
Next, remove the outer extra protection gloves
Dispose of these in the biohazard bag.
Roll the outer layer of the hood down so visibility is restored.
Then, step out of your suit and the biohazard bag onto the floor.
Your doffing partner will now switch the PAPR unit off
and disconnect the PAPR tubing from the battery pack.
You can now remove the hood by pulling the outer layer together overhead
and using a forward-up-and-over motion.
Drop the hood into the biohazard bag.
Be careful not to touch yourself or your clothing
with the hood, PAPR tubing or exam gloves.
Your doffing partner will carefully retrieve the PAPR tubing
for cleaning and reuse.
Next, remove the inner boot liners.
These should be placed in the biohazard bag.
Remove the exam gloves using glove-in-glove technique.
Dispose of the gloves in the biohazard bag with the discarded suit and hood.
Your doffing partner will seal and dispose of the biohazard bag
and attend to reusable items.
Rub your hands with hand sanitizer available outside the patient room.
Then proceed to a sink and wash your hands.
Rehydrate
and record the time out of PPE and your vital signs
on the Doffing Type C PPE checklist.
Then proceed to the shower.
