SSC would like to sell the Satellite Division although the last-built satellite system
is described as a great success.
The government says that front technology is the future of Sweden.
The reason is that satellite-building is not profitable at the moment.
From here, Sweden's latest satellite project Prisma, is controlled
The 15:th of June, Prisma was launched from Russia and so far it has worked well.
Swedish technology receives international attention and response
Confidence is high. Future prospects are said to be bright.
This technology must be used in the future.
When the need comes, we will stand there and take orders
But right now, this is not profitable.
Right now, when everything should be great at SSC
and at the state agency that distributes Space Board funding,
the satellite division is to be sold.
A bad idea, says critics in and outside the industry.
This is of course "so to speak" the SSC diamond brooch we are talking about.
The Jewel in the crown of Swedish space activities.
The ability to build own space systems for government purposes
as climate research and related projects.
As other countries envy us.
And what you fear, is that you sell to someone who would cherry-picking.
And that this ability that has taken us thirty years to built up, would disappear.
Ability to takes thirty years to build but can disappear in a month
It seems strange to spend tax money for thirty years
and when the results start to show, you should sell.
Yes, I can understand that it from the outside, it may look a bit odd.
But in the throes of consolidation where you buy and sell
and find new partners around the world in space industry.
There have SSC fared very well and expanded its operations by buying abroad.
What we see here is that they are trying to find a new ownership or a new partner
Another Swedish Space invention "green fuel" for both missiles and satellites
also get attention and may lead to future export earnings.
There is a global demand for environmental friendly solutions.
And then it would be great if Sweden at least could be a leader in some of these areas
It has been the Government's stated position that the knowledge society and high technology
is the future of Sweden. Maud Olofsson would not comment today.
SSC is the seller. Its chairman of the board say that there is no money to continue.
This deal is not complete and there are other suggestions
Drive on with reduced staff
Divide the business. Sell only partially
But if national Swedish projects will draw the short straw in this way
it raises a larger question
This raises the question what Swedish space activities are good for
Why the state should invest some nine hundred millions per year
for space activities of public funds
