Hey, What`s up folks! Welcome to another "Momento Criatura"
My name is Glauco Longhi, I`m a sculptor and creature designer based in Sao Paulo/Brazil
I`d like to say thanks to everybody that shared and liked the video.
You are making this grow up.
This vlog is made for you so spread the word.
So, I just recorded a video about my sculpting tools
I guess it`ll help you out to understand
how I work on my sculpture.
Make sure you subscribe, share the video and have fun ;) See you later
So, let`s see my sculpting tools.
My favorite tool is my hands. I`ll be using them as long as I can.
Doesn`t matter if it`s a small or big sculpture
I can put and remove clay,
push, carve, and so on.
There will be a time that my fingers are big
So I`ll start using my tools
I start using my Rake
Rakes have a kind of teeth. This scratch the clay helping build the forms
This will scratch the clay helping build the forms
Let`s see how it works
There are some that have a wire wrapped around.
They work the same
So, with this rake I can unify and blend the shapes
Sculpt large planes
Refine the large planes that I did with my fingers.
I can use the large metal scraper
to refine even bigger shapes
You can see me using this during the Orc Making of
I refined the head shape using this metal tool.
it`s flexible
so I reach small areas easily
I`d use loop tools too
I can carve
refine
and smooth the forms
now,
my favorite tools are spatulas
This one has a flat and a rounded surface
I can push the clay around
blend
carve
draw
and smooth it
This one has a loop tool on the other side
I have two tools in one. Makes my sculpting experience easier
I can draw
and then smooth
After build up the shapes, I can start thinking about finishing
I start working with sponges
I`d use water
remove the excess
and move around the shapes to smooth it even more
I refine more and more
Stabilising the planes and shapes
Well, after that I can use my brushes
I`d use water on water clay
on oil based clay I can use solvent
or isopropyl alcohol
I prefer to use alcohol
it doesn`t leave residues
well, I`d refine even more and smooth it out
now
for even further refining
I can start using stamps
These were made with latex
But you can pour some silicone over a orange
or a three surface
This stamp I`d press into the clay
let me try another one
the texture is now onto the clay
you wanna mix a lot of stamps
to start texturing the piece
after that I`d use ball point tools
make some pores
smaller pores
some lines
I`ll use this wire tool as well
make some fine wrinkles
I`ll smooth it with my brushed and work even more
I recommend getting a lifecasting and studying the real thing.
analise the pores and directions
the deal is to build up layers of texture
it`s not that easy so don`t rush
well
these are my tools
Hope you like it and help you understand how I approach sculpting
See you later ;)
