Hey guys, this is Heather from healthyeatingstartshere.com. Today, I’m going to share about my views
on the best water filters available today. A lot of you have been asking about water
filtration because I often mention that filtering your water is very important, to get out things
like chlorine, fluoride, lead, heavy metals, bacteria — all that kind of bad stuff.
Now, I was using for quite a few years just a pitcher filtration system. I was using the
Brita filters, which are decent and they are the most affordable way to start. But when
Phil and I moved, I decided to upgrade to a countertop filter, which is one of the best
water filters, if you have two people drinking quite a bit of water, as you should, and Phil
and I drink quite a bit of water.
So after about two and a half years, the initial costs of the countertop filter will break
even and you’ll be above level with the pitcher filter, because the cost per liter
goes down.
Let me show you what I have in our kitchen. This is an Aquasonic counter top filter, and
what happens is that it has this, which houses the actual filters, and underneath you can
see there are two filters in there. One is a carbon filter and the other is some different
kind of filtration system.
The carbon is the most common filter, that’s what they used in the Brita filters, but they
used granulated carbon. Here they use a solid carbon block. So it’s a little bit better
and it also has another filter that filters out other things.
And then, it also has a hose that connects to your faucet. You can actually get it and
converge it with this underneath your sink, but then you actually need a hole here. And
since we’re renting, we can’t really drill a hole into the sink.
So what happens is — when you turn on the faucet, and then when you pull this out, you
got to make sure you have a glass ready, and when you pull the thing out, you got filtered
water out of here. It’s very easy to use.
Aquasonic has the best level of filtration and is also pretty affordable, and I would
say its one of the best water filters available in the market today. You can have this program
where they send you a new filter automatically every six months, so you’ll save an extra
— about ten percent. They also do shower filters, I’ll show you mine. Shower filters
are important because chlorine can actually be absorbed through your skin.
So there is our shower filter hooked up to the shower head. It’s really simple to put
in there, all you have to do is to unscrew the shower head, and then you screw this on,
while the shower head is then screwed to the other side of the filter. This just opens
up to replace the filter, whenever you need to.
That’s what Phil and I use to filter our water. You can read about the different types
of the best water filters and filtrating systems on my blog at healthyeatingstartshere.com.
I would love to hear what you guys think about water filters and which ones do you choose
to use.
Let me know and leave you comments and hope to hear from you guys.
