Beloved Venus, goddess dear, Came across the sea
With a message, with a promise, With a prophecy.
Told young Julius Caesar, Told him sweetly clear
Of his glorious future, Of his great career.
Caesar sitting by the shore Looked far out to sea;
And seemed to see beyond the waves His stellar destiny.
Caesar was a noble Roman Of patrician line;
And now he had the favour Of the powers divine.
Comforted, emboldened By his patroness,
He stood up to his enemies With all-supreme success.
He dealt out ruthless punishment To those who barred his way;
Anyone who challenged him Soon rued the day!
To give a neat example: Once upon the seas
He was captured by some silly pirates In the Dodecanese.
They held him for a ransom, Which wasn't very nice;
But nor were they very clever: It was they who paid the price!
How pleased was goddess Venus To see her protégé
Triumph over every woe, Conquer squarely every foe,
And always find the hero's way, And never fail to win the day!
