>>I really like farming, but it is a lot of work. And one of the aspects that a lot of
people don’t think about often is how much of a risk taker or gambler a farmer has to
be to get up in the morning and actually do whatever it is that he or she does. Because
you plant that seed or that baby is born and you have to then shepherd each life through
its cycle, and there are many things that you don’t control. You don’t control the
weather. If we controlled the weather a lot of things would be different. And unlike many
jobs, you can work really hard and do the absolute best job that you can and something
still comes along and you won’t be able to get your crop to market. But it’s incredibly
fulfilling. Unlike a lot of jobs, when you get up in the morning, you know people and
animals and plants depend on you. So, you get a lot of wonderful feedback just on a
day to day basis. And you’re always thinking about the future. That’s one of the things
that really attracts me to farming, because there’s always next year if this year isn’t
good enough. So you’re thinking about that all the time. And it allows you to think about
your kids and their kids and what’s going to be happening in the world twenty or thirty
years from now. So it’s very satisfying.
