Since 2002, the Missouri Preschool Project has provided affordable, quality childcare
for at-risk families in the Springfield community. The Missouri Preschool Project known as
MPP resulted from a Community Needs Assessment. It is a collaborative effort of Missouri State
University's Child Development Center and department of nursing, with the Springfield
R-12 School System. The MPP, which is located in the Child Development Center on Missouri
State's campus, provides practicum and teaching opportunities for Missouri State students
with relevant majors. Dr. Susan Sims-Giddens, associate professor
in the department of nursing, and Dr. Mary Beth Mann, associate professor in the department
of childhood education and family studies, help support the MPP by securing grant funding.
Their work continues the MPP's mission to make childcare affordable to the families
with the greatest need. On the court to congratulate these three faculty
members are Dr. David Huff Interim Dean of Missouri State's College of Education and
Brent Baldwin of BancorpSouth. Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge the work of
these faculty members on behalf of the Missouri Preschool Project. They are in The BancorpSouth
Academic Spotlight.
