Travel international arrivals in the world
1950 -> 25 Million
1980 -> 278 Million
1990 -> 439,5 Million
2008 -> 922 Million
Every year millions of people move from one part of the planet to another.
This impacts heavily on the places and the communities visited.
It generates waste of resources such as water...
local traditions become trinkets for tourists,
pollution,
sex tourism with minors,
loss of local identity.
Without a change in our way of travelling
much of the natural and cultural heritage risks being lost,
forever.
Is there a way to be tourists and travelers without leaving a trace?
Yes there is!
And not only is it easy but it is also fun!
Getting information before leaving,
respecting the environment and the people who leave in it,
using local transport,
getting inside the authentic reality of the country
not only looking at the exotic appearance of it.
using the local structures...
and not what comes from forcing our culture onto another country.
Trying to understand that our actions and behaviour in other cultures could be misinterpreted
Asking for more price transparency,
e.g. on package tours.
A more careful way of travelling
may become a new model of development,
and above all it can be much more satisfactory.
