Welcome to the sixth annual space conference at Harwell. I'm sorry that I'm unable to join
you in person today but because of various commitments that I have, I'm unable to be
with you, so we have to do this by video link. I would just like to say that the contribution
that is made by space and space technology and space industry in the UK is highly valuable
and as has been announced recently, is worth some seven and a half billion pounds a year
to the UK economy. The UK is also extremely good at innovation and activities that surround
use of technology. I've visited Harwell on one occasion and also been up to Daresbury;
but it's just seeing what it is that goes on at those places means to me that that we
are at the forefront of this sort of technology. So I would wish you every success in your
endeavours as you conduct your conference today and hope that I will have the opportunity
of continuing to be engaged and support the space industry, because I believe that it
is very very important that we should be able to apply the knowledge that you have and take
it to the wider field of economics in the UK. So I wish you every success today, my
apologies again for not being with you, but hope that you have a very very successful
conference. Thank you very much
