So now that we've defined our municipal boundaries of Worcester Massachusetts in i-Tree Canopy,
using the shape tool which we find right up here. This tool allows us to add all the municipal
boundaries or whatever the geographic area of a defined project area would be. Once we've
completed that step, we go down here and simply click finish, where we will go to step two
in our project. In step two we can actually check out anywhere we are within the project
by clicking on the question mark. And it will tell us "in step two itree canopy allows us
to enter her idea to cover classes to survey across a study area". The default is simply
a non-tree/tree set of classes but we may edit and add classes as desired which I will
demonstrate you right now. So in this case here we just click configure the cover classes
for the survey and our default of tree and non-tree will show up. So at this point we're
able to decide what, or we could've predetermined what the canopy classes are for our tree canopy
study. So in this case here and I know I want to use tree, but my non-tree I might change.
To change it, I simply highlight that row and click on the edit button and change non-tree
here to groundcover. And I am going to change the class to GC. Then, over here I will call
that groundcover areas and that I just hit submit. So now I have my class groundcover
and it's defined in the abbreviation of GC and its groundcover areas. Let's add another
area here and we're going to call this one shrub. So what I do is I just highlight this,
I mean by clicking the + button and I am going to add shrub. My abbreviation for that is
going to be SH, and we are going to call this shrubs and bushes. We are going to hit submit.
So now we have the third area - we have tree, ground cover and shrub. And now lets add another
one here where I keep making a mistake, but if it shows how easy this is to use. I can
simply go and go back and edit this feature and add a new one. So let's add this one and
call this impervious areas. And we are going to call that IMP and a description is impervious
areas, and hit submit. So now we have all of these areas we could also place on a river
that it comes through, or a lake, and we can add one for water. So we just type in the
word water and the abbreviation for that could be water whatever you want to use. Then water
and we are going to hit submit. So now I can configure all of our survey area with these
classes of cover - tree, ground cover, shrub, impervious and water. Then I simply click
over here where it says done and it takes me to step number three, where we begin the
canopy survey. So let's get started and so we simply can begin our canopy with clearly
our defined areas.
