Move over, Mickey!
It seems millions are no longer flocking to Orlando just to see you,
but instead the characters of Frozen!
Yes, ironically, the sunshine state has become the new home
to Elsa and company - and it looks like winter is here to stay!
Over the summer, Walt Disney World rushed to capitalize on Frozen-mania
- grossing over one point two BILLION worldwide -
with Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!
There was a small parade, a store with Frozen themed merchandise and snacks,
a play area with ice skating and real snow,
plus a pretty awesome sing-along stage show. How awesome?
Well, awesome enough to even melt the heart of this Frozen-hater,
as my family trip to Disney World just happened to overlap with the first day of Frozen Summer Fun!
Yes, I had a snowball - a frosted rice krispy treat -
enjoyed the ice skating show, regretted that only kids seemed to be allowed to play in the real snow,
and laughed as the Royal Historians took a sarcastic view of what often seems like everyone’s favorite fairy tale.
We didn’t spring for the Premium Package,
fifty-nine dollars for adults and thirty-four dollars for those under nine
but apparently it often sold out as many Frozen fans
wanted to ensure a reserved seating for all the fun and a dessert party during the Frozen fireworks!
But while Frozen Summer Fun ends September 28th 2014,
the suits at Walt Disney World have seen that snow isn’t the only thing Elsa can conjure up!
So, what new Frozen experiences are coming to Walt Disney World?
A veritable snowstorm!
The biggest announcement is that after hosting an Elsa and Anna meet and greet for a few months
before the royal sisters moved over to the Magic Kingdom,
Norway is going to do the FULL FROZEN.
Maelstrom fans, I’ve got bad news.
The ride will say goodbye October 5th 2014 as Disney hurries to remake it as a trip to Arendelle!
And starting some time in 2016, after you have your own Frozen adventure on the ride,
you can visit a new royal pavillion as Elsa and Anna return to the Norway Pavilion,
while also staying in the Magic Kingdom!
That's right, two meet and greets to meet demand!
I also suspect that Princess Character Dinner will soon become a Frozen Character Dinner...
But that’s not all!
This holiday season, each night Elsa will use her powers to transform Cinderella’s Castle into another ice palace
- she’s getting really good at that -
as well as join the parade for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party - another paid event.
But you do get some *** for your buck as Anna, Kristoff and Olaf will also be there!
As for Frozen Summer Fun, that sing-along will stick around and Wandering Oaken’s will move to a new location closer to the show.
Plus a bigger play area featuring real snow!
Because I’d like to build a snowman too...
So, are you excited about all these Frozen plans for Walt Disney World?!
What would you like this new ride to be like?
Would you like a Frozen Character Dinner too?
And speaking of character dinners, what do you think of this new trend of add-ons and special events that have an extra cost as well...?
Plus are you impressed with how fast Disney can get things done
when there's so much money on the line?
