Most of our clients have the same common tag search dialog box. With tag search you can
go out and find all the tags in the system. There's both a basic and... and advanced.
The basic search has a limited number of fields. We support the wildcard character, both the
* for multiple character match, and a ? for single character match. So if I can demonstrate
the two: I type cd with an *, it finds three tags there. If I do cd and than an *158 it
finds the same three tags but if I decide to specify only a single character match that's
going to eliminate this tag right here because there are two characters in between the two
of those. If you notice here, now this is what our result is with the single character
match. One of the more common mistakes we see people make with this tag search dialog
is they forget to reset between searches. So for example, I am looking for a tag that
has the word "reactor" in the descriptor. I do a search, it doesn't find any because
it's looking for something that has both these criteria met. Let me go ahead and reset, and
now I'll search for "reactor". We should find just those things that have the word reactor
in their descriptor. If you have an extremely large system with a large point count you
may want to decide beforehand how you're going to search to speed things up. So for example
you can restrict this just to certain point types, certain point classes, for example.
All of these things can be set, one by one to restrict this to a smaller number of things
to search. One final point to make about this is it's case insensitive so doesn't matter
what case you use for your search. We will just go ahead and find whatever it is you
search for regardless of case.
