ECONOMIC SECTOR
The goal of the chemicals industry
is to master the reactions and processes of matter
and its combination in order to modify it to suit.
CHEMICALS INDUSTRY
Apart from business,
the sector’s mission is to provide advances that improve people’s lives.
Health, hygiene or foods
are just some of the segments strongly linked to the chemicals industry.
R+D The chemicals industry relies on R+D as its main ally for the future,
R+D and therefore requires large financial investment to advance.
Apart from this,
it has the support of governments and companies.
Foreign trade,
especially with Asia, has demonstrated an alternative for growth,
and if on one hand competition in the international market is stiffer,
it has also turned out to be a strong driving force
by promoting long-distance cooperation
between components of the production system
The other differentiation pathway is specialisation,
as in the case of the nanotechnology industry or the biomaterials.
(FIELDS OF ACTIVITY) Although companies often operate in more than one sector,
the professional situation of the chemical industry
is basically organised into three fields of activity:
The basic chemicals industry manufactures primary products
like plastics, compounds, pigments, acids, alcohols, gases
and other organic and inorganic chemical products,
as well as raw materials such as polyesters or polyamides.
The field of chemicals for human, animal and vegetable health
encompasses the activities devoted to the protection of living beings,
such as raw materials for drugs and animal and plant health products.
The activity of producing chemicals for industry and final consumption
is very important, and includes the manufacturing of paints,
dyes, varnishes, industrial oils and fats, bleaches,
cosmetic products, photographic material
or explosives, among many others.
(JOB PROFILES) The sector offers job opportunities for almost all the training profiles:
To access the higher-qualified posts,
a degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Pharmacy,
among others, is required,
but degrees in Law, Economy, Communications
and Medicine also have a place.
In this context, an increase in demand for professional profiles
with skills in techniques for sustainable development,
process control and computerisation is expected.
For the lower-qualified training profiles,
professional training offers a very wide range of possibilities,
and there are also professional certificates for lower profiles
who wish to access this job market.
The innovations in the manufacturing processes
and the automation of factories
make continuous training more fundamental than ever.
The sector is confronting a great challenge
to remain competitive in the international market,
but at the same time, innovative projects
and a great number of initiatives in environmental policies
CHEMICALS INDUSTRY are emerging and opening the doors
CHEMICALS INDUSTRY to a future with solid professional opportunities.
