We'll start today's review with the conclusion
if you buy an Audi S4, you won't need another car
This car can do anything
for the people who will comment and say that the BMW 335i is 10K cheaper
you're right
but in a 335i you will not get the same feeling you get in this
it feels a lot more exclusive
and a lot more special
the 3.0 V6 Supercharged in this car
which you hear right now
has been chosen as engine of the year in the U.S.
and rightly so, it is a fantastic engine
it almost feels naturally aspirated
you do need to keep the revs up to get the maximal result
and with a turbocharged engine, you usually have power all the time
because the turbo starts spooling up
with this, if you keep the revs up
but it really pays off when you do
If you get bored with the 333HP in this car
don't go running to the nearest Audi dealer
my advise is to take it to a tuner, an audi specialist, like MTM
and there you can have the ECU remapped for about 1000 euros
when you do that, it becomes almost as fast as the latest RS4
Chris Harris did it on Drive, but he also said there was no launch control available
but we beg to differ
the one I'm driving today has the "S-Tronic" gearbox
and we hear a lot of people say that it's just a DSG-box with a higher pricetag
but driving this, I get the feeling that that's not the case
it hits you in the back when changing gears, especially with launch control
a lot harder than a golf R, for example
that feels a bit digital, where this feels a lot more mechanical
that feeling really benefits the driving experience
when you really drive this car, some corners and a lot of up- and downshifting
it feels very sporty because the S-Tronic let's you know it's changing gears
and that is something I miss in the Golf R
one of the reasons I really love this car is the way it looks
it has a charm to it
because you know it is a very fast car
but it looks kind of understated
it doesn't look very aggressive or fast
neither does a 335i
but in this you get something special with the "S" badge
you can't really put your finger on it but I would pay extra for that
when you are looking for a practical, fast car
the S4 probably is the best choice
especially with the remapped ECU
when you get bored with it you get 70HP exra
and so the car kind of grows along with you
I would strongly recommend not to buy the latest one
because there are just to few differences with this one
it is just not worth it
i recommend to look for a good second hand one
like this one
this has done 5000 km's and is 60.000 euros
don't forget that this car cost over 100.000 euro's once
but with this second hand one, if you get your ECU remapped
you have a car for 60.000 euros, an RS4, for half the price of a new one
