Hi, it’s Steve from Partselect. Let me show you how to change the door catch on your dryer.
It’s a really easy job. All we’re going to need is a Philips screw driver, preferably
a stubby one.
The next step in this repair is to remove the front panel. It’s secured in place with
two Philips screws located about an inch in on either side underneath this lip. There
are two retaining clips on the top of the front panel that really all we need to do
is tilt the front panel out and disengage those clips. So we’ll start with taking
these two screws out of the bottom of the front panel.
Ok, now we have our two screws out. It’s a matter of lifting out on the bottom of the
front panel, pulling it forward and pulling it down off the top. And there’s the two
clips on the top.
To remove this portion of the door catch you need to push down on the clip, just a bit,
and force it toward the front. And the metal retaining clip on the sides, we’ll press
one of them in first, not too far, and now we can force the whole piece through the front.
There.
To reinstall the new catch we can spin our front panel around here. Then we’ll just
take the catch, press it firmly through the front, make sure it snaps solidly into place
and now we need to change the male portion of the catch.
To replace the male portion of the catch we need to do a couple of things. We need to
take the screw out that holds the *** in place and these two screws on the edge of
the door panel.
Now that we’ve removed the two screws the next thing we’ll do is separate the inner
and outer door panels and you’ll be able to see in behind the back portion of the latch
and a retaining block. So, what we need to do is compress the sides of the latch, holding
on to the front of it and we’ll pull it through the inner door panel. Take care not
to loose this little retaining block because we’re going to need it for our new latch.
Ok, now to replace the strike portion of our door latch kit take the new on, slide it into
the opening, take our retaining clip, press it over the back of it till it snaps firmly
into place. Now we can reassemble the door, put the two screws in and put the *** back
on. Be careful not to over tighten the screw in the know unless you want to buy a new ***.
Check the fit. There, we’re done.
We’ll engage the front clips on the top of the panel into a couple of openings on
the top panel just tilting it forward, lifting it up into place, holding it firmly up against
the top and then lower it into position. We’ll reinstall the two Philips screws. And the
repair is complete.
That’s how easy it is to change the door catch. Thanks for watching and good luck with
your repair.
