Hi, I'm Mike Lais on behalf of Expert Village. Today we are going to be talking about getting
familiar with the guitar. To construct the C chord, we're going to use on our left hand,
we're going to use our three fingers right here. And it's very simple. You want to take
your ring finger and place it on the third fret of the fifth string, just like so. You
want to take your middle finger and place it on the second fret of the fourth string,
just like so. And I'm going to go up to the second string, and I'm going to place my index
finger on the first fret. Notice how all of my fingers are pointing down, and they're
all just above the frets. You don't want to be too far off or anything like that. Now,
all of my fingers are bent on the first knuckle. If you start doing this kind of a thing, you're
going to deaden some of your strings. And you don't want to do that. You want your fingers
to be up on the tips of your fingers, and pressing down on the third fret, the second
fret, and the first fret, just like so. And the chord sounds like this. Ok? So, with this,
basically, now that we have the chord constructed on our left hand, to strum it, most of the
time, you don't want to strum your low string. You just want to strum the top five strings.
And you just kind of bring it down, just as you would in the strumming exercise that we
showed. Ok? Just like that. And that's a C chord for you. Try playing a few, and then
we'll look on to the next one.
