G'day everyone. My name is Daniel O'Grady,
and thank you for joining me for another Wasabicars video.
To those of you who saw an uninteresting car in the video's thumbnail
but came anyway, a big thank you to you. This car is a Mazda Chantez
and what you're going to find and what I found
is that it is a very interesting car with a fascinating rotary-related past.
Rotary-related, yes. But, no. No rotary. The engine Mazda put in this was the powerful
let me just underline that, "powerful" two-stroke, "AA" engine.
Of which, I happen to have a couple laying around here
Right ヽ(。_°)ノ This car was developed as a "Kei-car",
a class of vehicle that at the time that allowed for conventional,
piston-driven engines up to 360cc. But, Mazda engineers planned to install a
"3A", single rotor, Wankle engine. Other Kei-car manufacturers felt
they'd be put at a disadvantage with this so they lobbied against its Kei status.
Under threat of losing the advantagous small-car classification
Mazda opted for the 2-cylinder, 2-stroke, 359cc, "AA" engine.
Right ヽ(・_・;)ノ Following this experience,
Mazda didn't see value in the Kei-class and had no offering from 1976 to 1989.
Guys, thank you so much for sticking around. And, if you would like to buy a shirt
that would be awesome! And, if you would like to share this with
your friends that would be equally as awesome!
Thank you once again. Take it easy!
See you
