Today was one of the final phases to Strike Force Lavarack, which was an
ongoing investigation commenced here
by Orana detectives six months and effectively what we're investigating was the
importation and supply of a drug known as Alpha PVP,
which is an analog
of methcathanone, which
is a prohibited drug in New South Wales. Generally this drug is sold under the guise of
bath salts, but again so it's a highly toxic
amphetamine type drug.
There has been one recorded death that's been attributed to this this drug,
so it's a dangerous drug to be having on the streets.
Today we seized about three kilos of this drug,
which with a very conservative estimate,is about 900 thousand dollars worth of drugs on the street.
Two arrests were made up near (inaudible) and one arrest was made
utilising the Tactical Operations Unit
and there was two further arrests made in the
Possier Street area,
again utilising the services of the Tactical Operations Unit
and the fifth arrest was made in
Young Street.
All of these drugs, these analogues of currently prohibited drugs,
are prohibited in New South Wales,
they are highly dangerous,
mostly untested.
People often buy these drugs thinking they're an amphetamine or
an amphetamine type drug, you really don't know what you're taking,
they're made in laboratories overseas and
again it's a highly dangerous practice to be taking this kind of drugs.
We do business fair dinkum in Dubbo,
if you are
operating in these sort of clandestine activities involving drug supply,
a drug or firearm supply, or any other illegal activity,
you will be caught,
it's as simple as that.
And certainly if you're
running this sort of business
that will be alleged in court.
