This would be a library of books. Lots and lots of lovely books.
Is the library the building that the library is actually made of
or is it the books and the knowledge contained within?
Well, I had a quick look around at some of the books.
There's a book-sharing shelf.
I don't think this is actually part of the library itself.
If it's part of a course, I'm interested.
Old book, got lots of rude pictures that I won't show you straight away.
I think the one on the cover is as safe as it gets.
Can you explain this?
It's part of our book swap.
People bring in any books that they don't want, that they've read
and they want to get rid of and swap them with other books.
What do you think the person took away that brought that in?
Agatha Christie.
I think you might be onto something there.
There's lots of offices and bits and bobs on either side here.
Is that connected to the library itself?
Yep, all these are library staff, work in the library.
They're not all librarians, there's different people here
working to deliver all sorts of services and resources to students
both here and across the country.
Being a library that's part of a university
where the students don't necessarily ever come to this place,
how does that work?
The online library is happening.
It replaces the physical building here
and people can access resources online through their mobiles,
PDAs, laptops, computers, however they want to do it.
Truly digital and futuristic in every sense of the word.
This stuff that I'm looking at down here
is that mostly for the real massive-brained PhD research dudes
that come in and get some really interesting stuff?
No.
- What is it, then? - That's our course materials.
So these are sent to students from openings courses
right through to level 8 Masters courses.
So that's mainly what we're looking at here.
But there are some careers bits and bobs.
Who can use this library,
because it's pretty big for a campus with not many students?
It's open to anyone who wants to come here.
Anyone in the area or anyone?
- Anyone. - My gran.
If she wants to come here, she can come here.
She's Italian. Have you got any Italian books?
Probably quite a few, yes.
No way.
I'd better tell my gran
because there's definitely a shortage of Italian books in Hinckley.
The library's not very good.
Well, this library's fab so get your gran to come and have a look.
She can be really annoying.
That's fine.
You're trained to deal with annoying.
Yes.
I'm here and she's doing really well.
Anything else you'd like to add that you're particularly proud of,
this domain that you rule over?
Just the support we give to students.
Any inquiry pretty much we'll answer.
Can you pick a rude cocktail at random for us to finish on?
Don't want to see the picture
but I want to see your face when you see the picture.
Okay. Eggs.
That's the cocktail, eggs?
Egg nogs.
I'll leave that to your imagination.
Libraries. I think they're boring
until now.
