Financial Aid script Student knocks on the door and enters the
office. Loan officer: Hi, Janelle! How are you?
Janelle: Good, how are you? Loan officer: Come on in. Great, thank you.
Have a seat. Janelle: Thanks.
Loan officer: Thanks for coming in for your exit counseling, as you know, it's required
for financial aid, so glad you could come in today. Are you ready to start your residency?
Janelle: Yes, I'm really excited about it. Financial Aid Officer: That's wonderful. If
you remember, when you came to Hudson we had just changed over our tuition and fee model
to a hybrid type model that will actually allow you to do some service work. Do you
remember that? Janelle: Yeah, it's really great.
FAO: Okay. Just to kind of refresh, if you work for the clinic near your residency and
you do a certain number of hours each week it will help reduce your loans. Have you talked
to the clinic yet? Janelle: Yes, I've talked to the clinic and
we're thinking about 8 hours a week and probably on Tuesdays.
FAO: Oh great. You know if you have the opportunity to extend that, if you extend that for 4 years
you'll see more reduction in student loan debt. Now, let me go over some of the figures
with you. After two years, this is what your loan forgiveness will look like, (pointing)
and if you do your commitment for four years this is what you'll have, so you can see that
after ten years, your student loan debt is pretty much paid for, which is a really great
benefit. Janelle: Yeah, this is really awesome. I wasn't
ready to commit to working full time in the clinic, but now I can build my resume and
work with an underserved population and repay my loans with some flexibility.
FAO: And that's always a big concern for people just starting out. So, if you don't have any
questions about it, all you have to do is you just want to sign your paperwork here,
and just read over the terms and conditions, and then you're free to go.
Student: Okay, great. Thanks so much. FAO: You're welcome.
Student signing FAO: Thanks a lot, Janelle
Janelle: Thank you! FAO: Have a good day.
