The Unchanging
Wait wait wait!!
Go back a bit.
Some more
Ok
So you are thinking, 'This, looks like a love story'.
But before you start blaming me, of blatant misdirection, I would like to say right now.
THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY.
BEACH... WAVES...
SLOW MOTION... AND A GIRL IN THAT
I repeat.
THIS IS NOT A LOVE STORY.
When people meet Arun for the first time.
Its his height that they notice.
Only after they get used to him, they start noticing his unusually blank countenance.
It is not that his face is devoid of any expressions.
But people have a hard time understanding what is going on in his head.
He likes to watch movies.
Comedies in particular.
He says that he has seen MICHAEL MADANA KAMARAJAN atleast 216 times.
Only he knows if that numbers are true.
He tried reading some books influenced by his friends. He still tries.
He works in a BPO.
He doesn't like his work that much.
But he enjoys the company of his colleagues.
Well almost!
Hello.
Yes Sir. Tell me.
The manager?
Yeah I know him pretty well.
He would never refuse my words.
No no... But...
It would be best if you could tell it to him directly.
After all, he is doing this favor to you, right.
Arun was 16, when he stopped reading the dailies.
If you ask him why.
"Don't know! It never interested me!"
If you persist.
"Hey! You dont have anything good to do... Does that mean that every one has nothing to do, like YOU"
He hates probability.
He also hates people who have very strong opinions.
People in the US are so friendly, you know!
Their class... their attitude...
Its unbelievable.
So very inspiring!!
Its only here that the people are so fickle.
You know, I was on the bus the other day.
Some guy stole my wallet.
Oh! Then what happened?
Then. One more thing!
He also likes to follow strangers.
And now, if you are wondering why he is lying on the beach and playing back his memories in SLOW MOTION.
Ok, See you then.
Hey, one minute!
I was thinking about what you said, all through yesterday.
Yesterday was one of the happiest days in my life.
But.
I am not sure.
If this will work out.
It has nothing to do with you.
Its just that, I don't think I am the right person for you.
I hope you understand.
No... I really don't.
Only later did he realise that it was a big mistake.
Do you realize what you have done?
Girls like THAT do not propose to guys like US.
And YOU.
I am sure that you are gonna regret this for a LONG time.
Whatever it may be, what is the benefit in it for us?
All these NON VIOLENT protests and FASTING will not work for us.
The people here have short term memory loss.
I'll tell you ONE thing.
Mark my words!
Once IPL (Indian Premier League) comes, lets see if they still remember this.
There might be other people who don't read the dailies just like Arun.
But the reason Arun doesn't read them, is due to the obituary section.
When Arun was 12, his next door neighbour was a certain Mr.Ramakrishnan.
He used to go to to his office in a two wheeler.
En route, there were exactly 7 signals.
He used to get stuck in atleast 3 signals every day.
On the day of his death, he didn't get caught in 6 signals.
When he tried to push his luck on the seventh signal.
He died when he was hit by a rushing ambulance.
His death affected Arun.
The obituary section made him realize
that he was not special in ANY way.
That he is not unique.
Even his death could come any moment.
He stopped reading the dailies.
He once followed a lady in her early thirties.
When she started from her home in the morning, she was already irritated.
I don't know for what reasons she was angry that day.
But it was for the same reason, that she decided not to go to her office that day.
The next day, Arun searched his home for a very old shades and found it.
He felt that, there was more sadness in Life than happiness.
He felt cheated.
Wait, wait, wait... Are you saying that you don't believe it?
Yeah... I don't buy it... I DON'T buy it...
May be it's just me... But I don't buy it...
He lives as a Prince for 29 years.
And suddenly, one fine day, he comes out of the palace
Witnesses all the sadness, sickness and death in the world.
And then he just leaves.
For you, he could be the person who invented the whole...
Biggest religion in the world.
But to me, he is someone who deserted his wife and kids.
He wanted truth. But he realized
that the people around him wanted happy stories... not true ones.
Ok. Maybe what you say is a fact...
But they don't have to show so much sadness, okay?
These are all just tricks to manipulate the audience.
See, I don't want to pay 150 bucks to
See something that's gonna depress me!
Okay! So, I AM an escapist.. so what!
I have been so for 27 years.
It has definitely served me well!
He didn't get any answers to his questions.
He realized that he never will.
He realized how absurd life was.
Then it all passed away. Nonchalance took over him.
He started making decisions with a coin toss.
I hope it's not too late.
Now that I think about it.
May be IT is a love story.
May be NOT.
Does it really matter.
