JASON SHERIDAN: On behalf of Expert Village, this is Jason Sheridan of Sheridan Fencing
Academy here in New York City. Today, we're going to talk about advanced sabre fencing.
One other thing you can use the slide for is to be able to change the distance of your
attack, the distance that you will need to go reach your opponent without giving away
any of the attack, without changing anything in your preparation to give your opponent
an edge. Watch very carefully. Come both closer. In this instance, Emma begins her attack with
slide, Rachel tries to escape with a double retreat we talked about earlier, but because
she's making the slide, she has the time to bring her back foot even closer to her front
foot and make a much longer attack. Watch carefully. You see here, we'll do it one more
time. Emma's back foot came all the way in. Come back en garde. We'll do it again. All
the way in during her slide right up to her back foot allowing her a lot of distance on
her attack. And the double retreat was not enough.
