Study Spaces in the Library
This video will help you to find the perfect place to study at the UQ Library
The UQ Library provides a choice of study options to suit your mood and study style.
In the UQ Library you will find 24/7 study spaces, computer ezones, group and quiet study
spaces, bookable rooms, lockable desks and special needs facilities.
UQ students can study in any Library on any campus. Some Library branches have special
spaces that are only available to postgrad students, but all branches have spaces for
general use. Members of the public are also welcome to use our library branches during
opening hours. Wireless Internet is widely available across
UQ campuses, so students can also study outside.
[owl noise] For night owls, the Library has many study spaces which are accessible 24 hours a day,
7 days a week for UQ students only. On the St Lucia campus, students have access to:
the Biological Sciences Library, which includes a book vending machine with a good selection
of texts to help you with your study Levels 1,2, 4 and 5 of the Duhig Tower
24/7 study spaces in the Law Library (access via the Great Court)
and a large study room in the Dorothy Hill Engineering and Sciences Library.
The Graduate Economics and Business Library is also open 24 hours, but is limited to the
use of Business, Economics and Tourism postgrad students only.
It is important that you bring your student card whenever you use the Library's 24/7
study spaces outside of the Library's opening hours. Security guards patrol all spaces at regular intervals and may ask that
you show your student ID. More 24/7 study spaces are available at the
Gatton, Herston and the PAH Hospital Libraries. Swipe card access is required.
Contact these libraries for more information.
eZones are rooms dedicated in the Library to computer usage. Computers in the library
are available for students, with limited functionality for the general public. You will be asked
to vacate the library's ezones when training is on.
Group study tables are located in every Library. Large libraries like the Social Sciences and
Humanities Library have dedicated areas for group study -- check the floor plans to see
where they are. [cricket noise] Individual study desks are
located in every Library for those who wish to study on their own. Large Libraries will
have dedicated areas for individual study -- check the floor plans to see where they
are. If you need a more private space for individual
study or for your group work, try our bookable rooms. Both individual study rooms and group
rooms can be booked by UQ students. They must be booked on the Library website.
Click on "Book a Room or Desk", log in and select your desired branch and study space.
Some rooms can only be booked and used by postgraduate students.
Some of our group rooms and study spaces have large screens with computer adapters
and data ports that you can connect to. Otherwise book a data projector using the online booking
system where available. UQ students can also book lockable desks online.
In some libraries, these can only be booked by postgrad students.
At the Ipswich Campus Library, lockable desks are available to postgraduates on a casual
basis. See the loans desk for more information. The laptop recharge lockers in the Law Library
are available to all students. These must be booked on the Library website.
Power outlets are also conveniently located in our library branches.
If you are a student with special needs, you can register with the Disability Program,
run by UQ student services. This will allow you to access the Assistive Technology Rooms
in the Library's Duhig Building. These rooms have specialist computer hardware and software.
Other libraries also provide special desks, priority computers and other equipment for
users with special needs. For more information, visit the Library website.
