Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news from New Zealand.
As the city of Christchurch had been recovering from major earthquakes occurring in September
2010 and February 2011, the region has been rocked by more than 7,400 aftershocks that
have sent people running in panic and caused a total of 181 deaths With more than 11,000
quakes that have occurred so far this year, four have been over magnitude-6.0, compared
to just three for all of last year On June 13, two more powerful temblors measuring 6.3
and 5.7 on the Richter scale struck Christchurch, claiming the life of one person and injuring
40 others.
orrespondent (M): We’re here in Christchurch, New Zealand, in one of the eastern suburbs
that have been particularly heavily hit.
As you can see behind me, the roads have been heavily liquefied from the liquefaction that
has come up through the ground. This has caused major problems in many houses throughout the
areas, many of which are having to be destroyed.
VOICE: Conveying her sympathy and prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai donated US$15,000
for any urgent needs, while requesting that our Association members please go to render
support to the most desperate.
On June 18, our Association’s relief team in New Zealand arrived in Christchurch, covering
their own travel and related expenses of NZ$2,000, to coordinate with community groups in delivering
relief to the lower-income area of Aranui.
Correspondent (M):Thanks to the generous donation from Supreme Master Ching Hai, our New Zealand
relief team have been able to supply many families and homes in the areas with heaters,
blankets, and warm clothes.
We have also been able to supply relief distribution centers with food and water, hygienic supplies
and other important necessities.
VOICE: The relief team also donated NZ$2,000 of the funds to a no-kill dog shelter that
had been inundated with dogs abandoned since the disaster.
Upon receiving these updates, Supreme Master Ching Hai offered an additional NZ$10,000
for veg dog food, with love and gratitude to the shelter.
Charlie – Caregiver, Dogwatch shelter (F): Thank you so much, Supreme Master Ching Hai,
we really appreciate it.
Relief recipient (F): Master Ching Hai, [in Maori] greetings. I've been donated a lovely,
warm heater from this family of yours that you're sending around, and the food they've
just brought in, and the sleeping bags and the socks. Thank you for this loving support.
Big love, from Josephine and her family.
