Hi YouTube, Eric Legaud from Galago Music!
Today, the standard of the British Pop of the 90's, Wonderwall by Oasis of course,
We have 8 chords. About the right hand strumming,
since it's a bit skilful, in the original version they change it a bit according to what they're singing,
I came up with a pattern we can use most everywhere,
and which sort of sticks, it's not like the original but it really sounds like it,
and it'll be much simpler than dissecting everything, like on the cd.
Voila! So let's get crackin! Left hand, right hand, right now!
For the left hand, we start with a... E minor 7.
Em7, you use the fingers of victory,
and you place them on the 2nd fret of the A string, and the 2nd fret of the D string.
There, and the remaining fingers and the 3rd frets of the last two strings.
And you strum everything.
Next we have a G major chord.
It's super practical because we have three fingers in common, i.e those three fingers.
To go to the G, the major is gonna leave to the 3rd fret of the E string.
And here, same thing, we strum everything.
Next we'll have a D with the suspended 4th, a Dsus4.
Same here, we have two fingers in common,
The fingers we have here will go... so the major on the 2nd fret, and this one on the 2nd fret of the B string.
A priori you don't need to place the major,
given it won't be heard because this finger here, does the note.
It sounds the same with or without it.
But let's say that if you've started working on my other pieces,
you must be used to going from the G to the D,
so you might as well place everything, instead of changing everything and making a new chord, a new position.
So Em7, G, Dsus4 which I call "pinkie D", the regular D is like that...
And... A7.
So here, we only have this finger left, which is pressed on the 3rd fret,
the major goes on the 2nd fret of the B string,
and the index on the 2nd fret of the D string.
OK, and here we can... not strum the E,
it's not the fundamental note, but anyway, doesn't matter if it rings.
So that's for the verse!
I'll go again, Em7, G, pinkie D, A... A7!
Tac! Next on the chorus we will have a C chord,
with the pinkie, i.e a standard C chord but with the pinkie pressed on the third fret of the little e string.
So in details, 3rd fret of A, 2nd fret of D, and 1st fret of the B string with this one.
Next we will go to a standard D.
So 2nd fret of e, 3rd fret of B, 2nd fret of the G string.
And we'll arrive on the Em7.
Er we'll see the details after for the transitions and all, but yet what do we have? Next there is...
G/F#
This one will be... same thing, in the pre chorus.
So here's G major, for G/F# you take the major off and you put this finger on the 2nd fret of E.
Here, and what next? The A7sus4, which kind of looks like the A7 we had before,
except, we will place this finger on the 3rd fret of the B string.
So we have two fingers on the same string, and we will alternate the chords this way.
OK, so now we see the transitions!
The right hand pattern, for the struming goes like this
Down - Down - Down - Down Up (D) Up (D) Up Down Up Down Up
There, it's the pattern I've come up with which can synthetise the song the best.
Down - Down - Down - Down Up (D) Up (D) Up Down Up Down Up
Slower... Down - Down - Down - Down Up (*) Up (*) Up Down Up Down Up
Voilà... So, for example on the verse, - the intro and the verse I mean, we'll find
The Em7 chord, the C chord, the pinkie D chord, and the A7 chord,
and it's gonna last... quite a while, actually on this loop.
So now with the struming
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (C) Up... and here's the tricky thing, we're gonna cut the pattern in half,
on the first Up we change the chord
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (C) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie D) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (G) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie D) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
a bit faster (Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (C) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie D) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
There you go, and you make this last for a while...
Next the pre chorus.
We start with the pinke C, and here's it's the same concept concerning the cutting of the pattern
We're gonna use pinkie C, D, Em7.
So (pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
And the Em7 lasts during the whole thing. Instead of being cut in half like the others.
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
OK? So that's when he sings...
Something...
So that's what I call the pre chorus, and what I've just done, we'll do it twice.
So pinkie C, D, Em7. Twice in a row, with the rythm section.
The end of the pre chorus goes, again with (pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down
(D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up... and here you gotta be careful, it's gonna be G, G/F#, Em7.
So this line goes like...
So the pattern I've come up with to go on the G, G/F# and Em7,
is the only one which is gonna change from what I've shown you at first.
And what I do is: Down - Down Up Down - Down Up Down - Down Up (*) Up Down
OK? Again.
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down Up (G/F#) Down - Down Up (Em7) Down - Down Up * Up Down
Ok I'll do the pre chorus from the start.
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
the long (Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, and again
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, and now the swoop...
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down Up (G/F#) Down - Down Up (Em7) Down - Down Up * Up Down
And to finish the pre chorus, we have our A7sus4,
which will alternate between Asus4 and A7.
I mean A7sus4, sorry, and A7.
Which goes (A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
So I'll do again the pre chorus from the swoop with the G, G/F#, Em7, and I'll do the A7sus4-A7 thing...
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down Up (G/F#) Down - Down Up (Em7) Down - Down Up * Up Down
(A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
again (A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, and the chorus!
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down - Down... gnagnagna after all, something something...
SO, I will do the whole thing in a row.
The part that serves for the intro and the verse.
Not too fast for now, with the same tempo.
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (G) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie D) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, a second time for the fun!
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down (G) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie D) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, next the pre chorus!
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, second time!
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(Em7) Down - Down - Down - Down Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, again with the swoop!
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (D) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down Up (G/F#) Down - Down Up (Em7) Down - Down Up * Up Down
(A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(A7sus4) Down - Down - Down - Down (A7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up, and the chorus!
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(pinkie C) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) Up * Up * Up Down Up Down Up
(G) Down - Down - Down - Down (Em7) ...
Woohoo, there you are, it's a bit long.
But normally you've got everything you need!
So, if you wanna sound like on the cd, use a capo on the 2nd fret,
today I just couldn't be arsed to get my capo, I dunno where it is...
So work on that really in details, don't go fast,
don't hesitate to note the list of the chords on a piece of paper to be sure to remember them,
because this piece is relatively long, with different parts so it's not easy.
I'll do it one last time without the repetitions,
I mean each complete parts, without repeating them, except if there's a repetition in the part in question.
I'm gonna stop talking I think, and just play! :p
That was the verse, the pre chorus now!
A second time. Normal...
Same thing and the swoop.
And the chorus!
Voila!! Well then, I think it's good to listen to the song to really know when to switch parts.
Because as usual I haven't counted the number of times we need to do that!
I hope that was clear, I'm not entirely sure!
But anyway I did the best I could.
Thank you for your forbearance!
Good luck! This track is a classic of folk guitar, you gotta know it, that's all there is to it!
See you soon, Ciao!
