Right now we are in Gothenburg, Sweden. We are only
stopping here for food, and I want to point out something that
I've noticed about Gothenburg. The fact that everybody here
has Converse shoes. Most of them are like white high top
Converse shoes. Its kind of weird. It's amazing though. I should
stop starring at peoples feet.
Welcome to Stockholm, Sweeden. We are on our last stop in
Scandinavia. I figured I was going to wear my yellow dress
today. I hear is very Swedish. I don't know why, because it is
yellow. Sure, why not. I'm just taking a look at the town hall here
this morning. It's a little sightseeing tour.
Once again, welcome here at city hall in Stockholm, and I will
be your guide for this tour that will last about 45 minutes
The city hall in Stockholm was built between 1911 and 1923
When the city hall was built it had 3 functions and still has 3
functions today. First of all it is a political building. 200 people
come here, this is where the city council of Stockholm has their
meetings. Secondly this is a big banquet hall. We have about
300 events each year. That means almost 1 event per day. And
lastly, but not least, this is a building for visitors. It was very
important to the architect that the building would be open, that
you can come here, have a look at the architecture and maybe
come back one day.
Sweeden is a country where its cold, 6 months out of the year.
You might wonder how do we heat a building like this? If you
look above the door you can see that there is a big hole. That is
how we heat it. There is big holes like that in every room, where
hot air is let out. But this is the only room where we cannot
cover it it up. In other rooms it's behind furniture, arts, we can't
see it. But in here it is visible.
We are in the Vasa museum and as you can see behind me,
this is the Vasa ship. Built in 1628. Correct. Thank you for
correcting me. I just read it. Basically the Swedish version of
the Titanic bacause on its maiden voyage it sunk 300 meters
off the coast in the harbour here in Stockholm. And now as you
can see behind me, they obviously recovered it 330 years later
in 1961. And this is 95% original ship, 95% is the original ship.
Pretty impressive. Right, it's impressive, right James? Yes, its
pretty good. It's alright. it's okay.
I guess that is what the ship does look like, supposed to look
like. It didn't work because it was to tall, to long, to narrow, it
wasn't buoyant enough.
I feel like I'm in a Pirates of the Carribean movie and it's
awesome, except there is no Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp.
which is kind of disappointing, but that's okay.
