>> Chris Wagner: So, for instance in my
PowerPoints, we will talk about persuasive speeches, one
large speech we do.
So I can imbed videos or websites or sound clips and we
can talk about the different persuasive strategies that
these things use.
Advertising in media is all around us, and sometimes I bring
these into the classroom and show them to the students
in ways they are already familiar with.
I can show clips of TV shows, I can show songs and I can
incorporate them into the classroom so
seamlessly--it's really beneficial.
Product technologies help me to make the class flow a
little more seamlessly.
I love chalk and blackboard just for the nostalgia of it, but
when I have my back to the class it is disengaging--it doesn't
let me talk to them in a way that I would like to.
I use my PowerPoints almost minimally, so I will have
chapter headings up there, but it is nice because it helps
me to know what is coming up in a lecture.
My students get key words, obviously I don't put up huge
black text or anything like that but they can see, "Oh, these
are the five points of introductions."
We can have a discussion, we can talk about that.
It allows me to go forward and backward in my lecture
easily too, so if they have a question about a past slide
it is so easy to go back and not have to put things up
on the blackboard again.
I just find that it makes transitions and discussions in
the classroom so much easier.
I think product technologies are important because they make
the class more interesting.
It's terribly important, you want your students to enjoy the
class and get out of it more than just you standing up
and lecturing for 50 minutes.
So it's nice when I can show movie clips and show song clips
and direct them to websites and incorporate current events
and things in the classroom that otherwise the students may
not be as engaged.
