Narrator: Located in Melbourne and Ballarat, the State
Revenue Office gives talented people the opportunity to develop their careers in an environment
that's diverse, stimulating and rewarding.
In fact the combination of interesting jobs, personal development, a balanced lifestyle, corporate
social responsibility and promising career opportunities mean people choose to work
at the State Revenue Office.
Gina: I have a major in Commercial Law, and my career so far predominently been in finance
working for two of the major four banks. I found there was increasing work demand and
pressures which meant longer hours and little work/life balance and opportunity for professional
development.
Since leaving the private sector and joining the State Revenue Office the transition has
been like night to day. The work has been both interesting and engaging, the induction
process is professional and informative. The staff are valued and there is a genuine commitment
to learning and development here. The work environment is friendly and supportive also,
which is fantastic. The State Revenue Office also has an active Social Club, with great
staff benefits and regular activities throughout the year. They also promote a healthy living
lifestyle with health expo days and subsidised gym memberships. They are also a socially,
environmentally responsible organisation with fundraising events for charities held four
times each year. Working in the Melbourne CBD is great, as our new offices are located
close to public transport and there are some really great places to eat and shop nearby.
I am really happy with my decision to move from private sector to State Revenue Office.
I have the work/life balance I was looking for and now work for an organisation that
genuinely values me as an employee and is committed to my professional development.
I couldn't be happier.
The role of the State Revenue Office is to collect taxes and duties and administer functions
such as the First Home Owner Grant, so that the government can actually collect enough
revenue to fund the things that Victorians need, like hospitals, transport, police, nurses
and so on. So we don't look at ourselves as largely
being tax collectors, but more as contributing to the benefit of the state overall. We employ
a range of people at the SRO, people like
lawyers, accountants, people with HR qualifications, people with IT qualifications and we are always
looking for people who are the right fit for the organisation that really want to contribute
to the State of Victoria. I think the SRO is a great place to work, we really do try
to make sure that we take into account peoples individual needs, we try to accomodate peoples
work/life balance and we also take into account their training requirements and career desires.
So that when people come to work at the SRO they enjoy themselves, and really develop
while contributing to Victoria's future.
