131: PRE-SYNOPSIS INTERVIEW RICARDO PEREIRA - UCD'FF
"Ricardo. Take one."
Hello, my name is Ricardo Pereira,
I live in Porto, I film and I agreed to work on a project
in a place that was completely unknown to me
and that appealed to me specially for that unknownness,
also due to the brief description that I was given,
that are the São Jacinto Shipyards.
And I embarked on this project,
"as a Project"...
since I do much more than just to film.
I take interest in all kinds of registries that I can use,
and learn from them.
And...
...the place that I filmed, that I introduced myself to,
and to which I traveled with my colleagues,
on purpose early in the morning, to film,
because it was important to accompany that place along the day
and do what I can, to gather all the registries that were possible to me,
as well all those harder ones... For we went very early to film...
...to achieve what is more unattainable, since it's more "lost".
And once in there finding all those spaces,
we were immersed, taking more than one day to understand the place itself,
it's size, and what it had to offer and to show us.
Even in the last day there was always something new to find,
something "lost" that we could "recover",
and there was always a new take that I could film,
among many others I wished to film, and could not.
I am trapped in the condition of director, and no matter how much I try
there is always something more that remains lost.
And loss is one of the main topics of this project...
...because the place itself was lost.
The funny thing is, the maximum that I managed to glimpse
the kind of place that it used to be, was when we met a witness, a man
who I do not know the name, who I do not remember if he lived there,
I can only recall his face and that he knew the place very well,
and I feel that this man who talked to us about the place
could easily tell us much more. I'm sure that he knew the place much better,
amid his own anguish. But even in his condition
he could only tell what he remembered and had spare time for.
