The strength came in this da'wah (call to Allah) with al-Hasan, the son of 'Ali [ibn Abi Talib].
He gave up the outward mantle of the caliphate saying, "Take it! And protect the blood of the Muslims!
Take this title of caliph, [but] preserve the honour of the Muslims!
I have inherited Muhammad! I have inherited his secrets, his lights, his gnosis and his knowledge.
Do you think I will fight you over this show and appearance [of caliphacy]?!
Take it! But protect the blood of the Muslims!"
That was a showing of true strength!
Upon him be the Good Pleasure of Allah, the Exalted!
These meanings continued to come through the ages.
And so it is that the brother from Canada reminded us of al-Habib Ahmad Mash-hur, upon him be the Mercy of Allah.
Strength!
[Habib Ahmad came from a small place called] Qaydun in Hadramaut, but was filled with the strength of faith, certainty and a connection with the Strong One!
We went to Granada in Spain, and Ahmad Mash-hur al-Haddad was over there... in the hearts that were touched by his light.
Because of him [those hearts] became attached to Allah, the Exalted.
Who is this man? Was he an orator? Was he a propagandist? He was neither.
He had truthfulness with the Most Merciful!
So in the midst of this village of Qaydun, he was cloaked in a robe of light.
In his infancy, the great Imam Ahmad bin Hasan al-'Attas came to his village.
Dawn would come while he, alongside his grandmother, would be awake in the last part of the night.
She would tell him, "My child, today al-Habib Ahmad bin Hasan will lead people in prayer in such and such mosque. I want you to get the blessings of this prayer. Don't stay with me. Today, go to the mosque and pray behind al-Habib Ahmad bin Hasan."
And so he prayed Fajr behind Habib Ahmad bin Hasan.
He heard him recite Surah al-Fajr (the Dawn) in the Fajr Prayer, and the light of Fajr shone in his heart.
He would emulate this voice of [Habib Ahmad bin Hasan] for the rest of his life whenever he recited.
He would say, "I heard Habib Ahmad [bin Hasan] recite [the following] in this tone..."
And he would recite in the same manner as he heard Habib Ahmad [bin Hasan] those years ago when he was a child.
These are transmissions of strength!
How many came to Africa before him and after him; eloquent orators from various parts of the earth, but none have had the same effect as him.
No one has brought people to Islam as he has! Upon him be the Good Pleasure of Allah the Exalted!
He used to say to me, "I don't have anything... If Allah has gifted us something, it is because of da'wah (calling to Him)!
All these blessings are from the magnitude of da'wah (calling to Allah)."
[In his old age, when he could not travel anymore,] he said to me as I set off on my first da'wah trip to Hadramaut, "I wish I was still a youth so I could carry out the call to Allah."
He realized the magnitude of da'wah!
The strength of his dawah reflected his connection with the Strong One.
He didn't rely on propaganda or media or campaigners to create a movement or do any of the usual...
He was sincere and truthful with [Allah,] the Truth!
He told me, "For years, I would only go to Madinah if I saw [the Prophet], peace and blessings be upon him, granting me permission to enter. [And] if I entered Madinah, I would not leave unless I saw him granting me permission to do so
For years, I did that.
Then I saw him saying, 'And you, my son Ahmad.. you are authorized to enter and exit our Madinah whenever you wish... Don't wait for a sign from me!'"
Peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.
[The Prophet] is the secret of the strength that the elite ones possess! From [him], they derived strength!
[And] by their shyness, good etiquette, humility, reverential fear and penitence to [Allah,] the Truth!
And this has been the path of the elite throughout the ages.
And their banners are spread throughout the world... under the banner of the Chosen one. Peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.
[He is] the Best Caller, who called us to the Straight Path.
Peace and blessings be upon him and his family and companions.
