Syrian troops have killed at least 1-hundred-75 rebels in an ambush, according to Syrian state
media. State news agency SANA reported Wednesday
that the attack occured at dawn south of the capital Damascus, in the opposition-held area
of eastern Ghouta. Most of the rebels were said to belong to
one of the best organized al-Qaeda-linked groups and were mostly foreigners from Saudi
Arabia, Qatar and Chechnya. The British-based activist group, Syrian Observatory
for Human Rights, reported the assault too, but said 70 rebels were killed.
