I just saw an ad for an attorney advertising a Chapter 7 bankruptcy for $570 dollars. How
is that possible? Hi. I’m Eric Engel, Seattle bankruptcy attorney with the Engel Law Group
in Seattle, Washington. Now you might think you’re getting a great deal if you can find
somebody to do your bankruptcy for only $570 dollars. But the reality is they’re probably
a lot of shortcuts. This attorney may be overwhelmed and working on a large number of cases, and
probably is overwhelmed and working on large number of cases in order to make ends meet
because of how little he charges for his bankruptcies. Also, he’s probably also charging you extra
for things like attending the 341 hearing. Or perhaps charging you extra for a reaffirmation
agreement. Or perhaps that’s just the fee to actually file and then charges you more
if you need additional paperwork prepared. The reality is, like anything else, you get
what you pay for. And if you want to have a cheap attorney prepare your bankruptcy petition,
you’re going to get a result that’s probably pretty haphazard. I used to know an attorney
that charged only $450 dollars for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The problem was that this attorney
was disbarred. He also then just sat on the bankruptcy petitions and never filed, meaning
his clients had their homes taken away and their cars taken away. Why am I telling you
this? I’m telling you this because we deal with bankruptcy issues every day. If you’re
thinking of filing for bankruptcy, you need to give us a call. I’m Eric Engel, thank
you for watching our video.
