This tutorial illustrates using the check for full text W button in CINAHL.
We are going to view a full text journal link and take the steps to view the article text.
We are working with the article titled “The decision to intensify therapy in patients with
type 2 diabetes: results from an experiment using a clinical case vignette.”
Click on the “Check for Full Text – W” button below the citation.
A new window or tab will open, or it will open in a window or tab that is already open,
titled “Full Text Links: UW Libraries.”
Notice the text “Content is available via the following links,” “Links to content,” and “Journal.”
Any of the Journal links would work for us for this 2009 article.
Click on the first Journal link to get to the full text online.
Now, let’s drill down to appropriate date.
Vendors will have the link to previous issues located in different areas of the page.
Look for any text similar to “Issue List,” “Archive,” “Previous Issues” or
“Back Issues” on the page.
With this vendor, they have a “Select an Issue from the Archive” link that includes our year of
2009. Click on that link.
With this vendor, they have an “Archive” area organized by year.
We need the 2009 year.
What are the date, volume and issue numbers that we need in 2009?
Check either the Full Text Links, or the EBSCOHost page to see.
We need September 1, 2009, volume 22, issue 5
Go back to the journal archive page and click on the September 1 link.
Now we are on the table of contents page of the issue we need.
Scroll down the page and look for the title words of “The decision to intensify therapy in patients
with type 2 diabetes…”
Click on the Full Text (PDF) link to open the full text of the article.
This concludes our “How do I use the journal link” tutorial. Thank you!
