A carved rhinoceros horn ‘lotus’ libation cup will be offered in the June Fine Asian
Works of Art Auction. The piece is an extraordinary testament to the traditional art form. The
expertly carved horn is from the 17th to 18th century and is fashioned in the form of a
furled lotus leaf. Chinese rhinoceros horn works are estimated at a total number of less
than 4,000 worldwide. The scarcity of these works of art explains why well-preserved rhinoceros
horn carvings of the finest craftsmanship are extremely sought after in today’s market.
The exquisitely carved horn will be offered as lot 8096 with an estimate of $40,000-60,000.
