I'm going to share with you my personal Five Best Couponing Strategies. The first one is
have a plan. Whether you're heading to the grocery store or you're going to do an online
shopping spree, make sure you have a list of what you want to buy, and you have your
coupons all ready to go.
Now that follows up with the second one. You've got to be organized. Again, if you're going
to the grocery store, make sure that you have your coupons ready as you go through the aisles
so you can pick up those things that you are trying to purchase. You know the rules ahead
of time. You know any kinds of different rules that might apply to stacking, you name it.
The third one is make sure you sign up and interact with different reward programs. So
be it at the grocery store where you make sure that they have your mailing address so
they can send you coupons that are related to your recent purchases, or online where
you sign up with retailers that you love. They'll send you coupons, deals, sales notifications,
you name it.
What's important here is sometimes when we get these emails we're tempted to click that
unsubscribe button. We're inundated with these types of offers. You don't want to do that.
The more you interact with these emails, the more you're going to get. They're going to
put you in their good list, their list of people who want our deals. They're going to
make sure they're sending them to you frequently and often, and that they're relevant to you.
Fourth, be courteous, whether that's checking out at the grocery store and making sure that
you're patient and you're courteous to the cashier when you're handing over that boatload
of coupons, or it's working online if you need some help with customer service. Be courteous,
be patient, make sure that you are ultimately being a friendly couponer, and showing how
to do that for everyone else.
Fifth, make sure that you're buying what you need. I think it's pretty tempting to have
this great coupon, and you want to run out and use it right away. But if you don't need
it, don't buy it. Ultimately, you're not going to save a lot if you're spending your money
on things you don't need.
