Hello hello hello everybody Matt Johnson here from Direct Language Solutions, I
hope you all are having a fantastic day.
Today I would just like to make a quick video to tell you that you are
better than you think. I have been talking to a lot of
students lately which have have at Direct Language Solutions, and
a lot of people who are just interested, in general, in learning foreign languages.
And I get the impression that a lot of people do not believe in themselves, at
least not as
much as they should. They do not have as much faith in themselves as they should.
I often hear, you know, people
saying that they think they are too stupid to learn a foreign language;
too old, not talented enough, their memory is not good enough, you
know, and it goes on.
But you can do anything that you set your mind to. You can do anything that your
heart desires. You have to get used to it, you
have to make it a habit in your life. You have to be consistent.
But if you go for it
and spend time with it, rest assured, you will accomplish it.
A lot of people put very unnecessary pressure on themslves. So let me touch
a few points in the context
of language learning: Language learning, language, is so interesting because you
don't have to be perfect
to be meaningful. You can simply communicate. Even with a few words, if
you don't even use proper grammar, proper
pronunciation, native speakers can understand you.
And you can enter into their life. It is just so
rewarding, you can take part in their culture with just a few disjointed words.
Language is a natural thing as well.
It is not a performance activity, it is not a sport.
People are not watching you to see if you are perfect.
Language is also a personal thing.
It takes time, and maybe for some people it takes more time than for others.
But there is no clock around your neck, there is no hourglass
that is always sitting on your shoulder.
You can time and do it at your own pace. Do it for yourself. Do it to
enrich your own life. Do it for your own life!
You don't have to do it for other people.
Nobody is looking at a stopwatch,
waiting for you to finish learning this language. Language learning is a lifelong journey
and you can take your time and enjoy it. And language learning does not have to be
an academic thing.
If you were not so good in school or are not
currently so good in school, you don't feel like you are academically gifted,
first of all, you can change your academic performance.
If you want to change your academic performance, you can do that as well. But in terms of language
learning
it is just not like other subjects that you might study in school.
It is a natural thing that you just do.
You can just accept the new language, spend time with it, and you will start to
communicate with time.
You don't have to learn a lot of academic vocabulary, concepts, you don't
have to study hard
You don't! You don't have to study hard to learn a new language.
So, all in all, I just want to tell you to relax,
that you are better than you think. A lot of people who put pressure on themselves
and think they are just
too incompetent to learn a foreign language, they are telling me
this in what is
for them, already a foreign language that they are communicating very
very clearly in. You are most likely doing the same thing.
You are doing fine. If you are communicating
well enough for people to understand you to any degree,
you are on the right track and are doing fine.
Having said all of this, I would like to help you further
by giving you access to a free copy of our new book.
It is an ebook called the 7 Lies of Language Learning.
In this book I attempt to dispell some lies that people seem to believe when
it comes to language learning
which actually impair them from learning. It is a short book, it is not too
overwhelming to read.
It is available in English, German, and Spanish. Soon it will be available in other
languages as well.
We are working on getting the translation of it in Russian, Portuguese,
Mandarin, Japanese, and French. I hope I didn't
say French already.
I don't really have a script in front of me. I am just
opening my mouth and my heart to you guys and communicating what I want to say.
So, you can download our ebook.
Or "pre-subscribe" if you are watching this video before
April 1st. It will be available on April 1st, which is
tomorrow
So basically if you are watching this video today you can subscribe to the book.
And after that, you can just click on the link and download the book,
and you will get the book along with a recording in the respective language.
If you get the English version, you will get the recording in
both American and British accent.
Or at least in AN American accent and
A British accent.
You will also get a podcast. Every day for 7 days you will get you will get an episode of a podcast
on the 7 Lies of Language Learning, where we talk about
the 7 lies, with transcript.
And of course I will be talking about them on Youtube throughout the week, most likely.
So you will get a lot of information hopefully,
and a lot of encouragement
that will hopefully inspire you to go out and pursue your dream to learn a
new language and
to remember that you are doing better than you think.
So, I hope you guys all have a fantastic day.
