Howdy! Welcome to Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the College of Geosciences at
Texas A&M University. My name is Missy Matthews and, as your academic advisor, I'd like to
take this opportunity to briefly tell you what you can expect when attending your new
student conference this summer. For short, we will call the New Student Conference NSC.
Let's look at your two days at NSC. On day one, in the morning, you will attend meetings
about academic policies, class registration and financial matters. On day two in the afternoon,
we look forward to welcoming you to the mandatory College of Geosciences meeting. First we'll
introduce you to the college. After, we will break into groups by major to discuss degree
requirements for your major and we will plan your fall course schedule. On day two, all
new students at the college of geosciences will use our computer labs to register for
classes. As you begin your future as an Aggie, please make sure you do the following. First,
and most importantly, you must take the math placement exam as stated in your acceptance
letter. Please do your very best as the test results will determine which math course you
will be able to register for. You will not be able to register if you have not taken
the exam. Second, do not accept any course work that you may have earned by AP credit
until you have met with me to see if those courses will meet degree requirements. Third,
please submit proof of your immunization or your waiver for bacterial meningitis before
the New Student Conference. Not having your bacterial meningitis documentation could prevent
you from registering on time. Finally, if you have transfer or dual credits, you must
submit your final transcripts by the first week of school. I'm looking forward to meeting
you at your new student conference. If you have any questions or concerns before your
conference date, please contact me by email or phone. My contact information can be found
in the email sent with this video link.
Thanks and Gig 'em
