Hey everybody, welcome to another edition of The Daily presented by EA Sports FIFA 2012.
It's Friday, October 7th here with Greg Lalas, I'm Nick Firchau.
Before we get to the weekend's action, lets take a look back at a big game Thursday night.
The Vancouver White Caps getting their first win at BC Place.
A 3-0 bout over Salt Lake. What happened in this one?
Real Salt Lake obviously just didn't play very well for one, and Vancouver played very
well. They were moving the ball well.
They were getting lots of chances, and then a red card to Carl Warner on what i think
is a questionable hand ball in the box. The Vancouver players didn't seem to think
that at all. They immediately were calling for the red
card and the penalty. They got it.
Camile steps up, and puts it away. That's 1-nil.
He gets another penalty later on. Then they end up finishing it later on with
a beautiful goal. This was a very good Vancouver team.
Salt Lake though, 4 losses in a row. Jason Kries said he was already nautious about
the 3 game losing streak they were on. Then he ends up getting food poisoning, and
sat upstairs in the box for this one so he didn't have to watch it from the sideline.
Salt Lake really struggling right now. It seemed stacked well against Salt Lake in
this one. They played without guys like Beckerman and
Salvario was on yellow card accumulation. A big loss for RSL up in Vancouver, but a
big win for the White Caps up at BC Place. Lets take a look at some of the games this
weekend. One we want to mention is New England at home
against San Jose. 7:30pm eastern on MatchDay Live.
Two teams that are out of the playoffs, but I'm sure fans are interested in that one.
Then a big game in the nightcap. The Seattle Sounders at home 10pm easter on
MatchDay Live against the Philadelphia Union. A big one for both teams.
Can Philly go to Seattle and get a win if the Sounders have a hangover from that Open
Cup? They could, but at the same time, philly have
done a lot of traveling. Don't forget that they were last week at Chivas
USA. They've come home, then they have to fly back
to the west coast. The Union have never won in the Pacific time
zone as a franchise. Seattle on the other hand obviously will have
lots of confidence coming out of that US Open Cup.
They also know that they have 2 games to be played before the LA Galaxy play their next
one. If they win both of those, they are just a
point behind the Galaxy. Ziggy Schmidt saying that they put a lot of
pressure on LA in the race for the supporters shield.
By the way, that 2nd game is against the San Jose Quakes at Sentry Link.
Supposedly 50,000 tickets sold for that one. Philadelphia obviously a tough team offensively.
We spoke to Ziggy Schmidt yesterday on ExtraTime Radio.
He was saying it's going to be a tough one and we know that.
He feels pretty confident about the way his team is playing.
The Philadelphia Union definately stuck in the muck for that Eastern conference race.
Quietly, 6 games in a row unbeaten. That's a big boost for them from a defensive
standpoint. The east-west matchup there.
There's also some international action we want to get to.
It's some interesting story here for the Canadian national team in action Friday night down
in St Lucia. There's been some problems with the equipment.
They went out to train, and they found out that the goal post of the goals they were
supposed to use were not up to FIFA standards. They weren't able to do that.
They had to make some makeshift goals. While officials from the St Lucia federation
were welding new goals, hopefully to be ready for tonights match.
It's a World Cup qualifier we're talking about here.
They needed to make sure the goal posts were all set.
This is a game where Canada should run over St Lucia in this one.
One other storyline to follow in this one. Dwayne De Rosario is sitting on 18 goals for
the Canadian national team. One more and he ties Dale Mitchell for all-time
for 19. It would be nice to see Dwayne De Rosario
work his way into the Canadian record books. There's one other big game in the international
slate. It's the US national team in action on Saturday
against Honduras. 6pm eastern time on Fox Soccer.
There's a live chat here on mlssoccer.com They're down at Sunlife Stadium down in Miami.
We talked to Maurice Adu on this latest edition of ExtraTime Radio.
There's still some ambiguity about what this lineup is going to look like.
What do you expect? I think right now he's going to look to solidify
the guys in back especially. He brought in a group of that is the one that
I think will check out. I think Jurgen Klinsmann loves Chandler.
He wants to take a look at Chandler again. The questions are also in the midfield.
Without Jose Francisco Torres, who is the creative guy in the midfield?
Does he bring Dempsey in there? Does Maurice Adu play a more attacking role.
Does Michael Bradley play that attacking role? I think that Klinsmann loves having Beckerman
in there as the sitting guy. There's also a Jeff Lorentowitz.
He may be getting a chance finally to solidify a spot in there as well.
Lots of question marks. The biggest question mark in all of this is
a player who is maybe not in camp, Omar Gonzales from the LA Galaxy.
He came out the other day and said he would consider playing for Mexico, which I think
is a little interesting. It's a little common.
Klinsmann shot back. I can only bring 18-20 players in, and these
are the guys I brought in to take a look at. A lot of people clammering to be part of this
group. There are a couple of other MLSers in this
camp, and obviously the guy up top, the one people are curious about, Juan Agudelo and
Thiel Bunbury back in the mix. I'm going to be curious to see who plays up
top as well. Again, that game is 6pm eastern on Fox Soccer
and Univision. You can catch a live chat right here on mlssoccer.com

We mentioned it. We talked to Ziggy Schmidt of the Seattle
Sounders and Maurice Adu. You can find that on iTunes or BuzzSprout.
One last thing before we go, we're inching our way towards MLS Cup.
November 20th out at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.

fan. What's yours?
My one right now is that the 100% real soccer fan doesn't worry about the results of a US
national team finale against Honduras in October of a game that really doesn't make much of
a difference other than to find out what's going on on the field with the players.
