Genital warts are just skin-coloured bumps that can appear on your genitals.
They can be on the ***, around the ***, around the bottom.
They're usually noticed by the person that has them
because they might be itchy or bleed or they notice a bump.
They're caused by the human papillomavirus or HPV.
There are over 100 different types of HPV that we know about.
Some cause warts on the hands, others cause warts on the body,
some cause warts on the genitals.
Usually, the types that cause warts on the hands don't cause warts elsewhere,
for example on the genitals.
It's usually genital-to-genital, skin-to-skin contact.
Genital warts are very common.
If you think you have them, it's nothing to worry about.
Get a *** health checkup to make sure
you haven't picked up any other infections at the same time.
If you can, avoid sex, or if you are having sex,
use a *** to cover the lumps while you have them.
Go and get seen by a health professional
who can give you some treatment for them.
That can help them to go quickly.
