Nintendo fans, brace yourselves. Rumors about the company's possible gaming expansion
into Android and iOS devices have been squashed.
Japan's Nikkei originally reported the gaming giant had plans to create "progressive" content
for smartphones.
TechCrunch reports the rumored content would have included "minigames" to let the user
get a taste of the full games for Nintendo consoles.
But a new report from Nintendo says otherwise.
Nintendo tells Engadget Nikkei misunderstood the CEO's previous statements about the company's
mobile interests.
The company adds: "Nintendo's intention is not to make Nintendo software available on
smart devices. ... There are no plans to offer minigames on smartphone devices."
But this doesn't mean Nintendo won't be taking advantage of the mobile app market. The company
says it plans to use apps as a marketing ploy to drive traffic to its consoles. (Via The
The Verge reports Nintendo is exploring how to use smartphones to grow its business, but
it's unclear exactly how the company plans to do that.
The mobile venture comes amid competition from new PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Nintendo
recently slashed the number of consoles it expects to sell by the end of the year and
