Hi and welcome back a little tip for migraine sufferers if its getting a bit nippy in the
head region on a cold evening put on a nice warm hat. so anyway we are gonna make a start
on the freeform scrumble. This is the name that is used for the small freeform patches
and the act of making them is called scrumbling. I'm not sure if I mentioned that yet!. So
if you wanna look that up on your internet *laughs* . Ok I've got 2 sts three four five,
six a chain of six stitches. We're gonna connect that into a circle using a slip knot. It is
also helpful while you are doing this to work over your yarn ends if that's possible. If
you're using a very light weight yarn or you'r doing a very openwork project its not as feasible.
But for what we are doing here you can make a start on that.I am going to crochet twelve
single crochet's into the ring. I'm using a super duper (slang for big!) hook here.
Coz I wanna make the stiches quite big so you can see them. But it really doesn't matter
what hook you use, use what you are comfortable with and the yarn weight that you are comfortable
with. Yet of course of you want a drapey fabric you can use a lighter hook. I have lost count
of how many stiches I have done :S..*counting* oops. I'm actually relatively new to crochet
I think I have been crocheting about 4 to 5 years now. I'm then gonna fasten that into
a ring don't be worried about if you have done one or two stitches less or one or two
stitches more as we are going along it really shouldn't matter. for some reason the video
jumps and repeats this section I have no idea why? we are gonna skip a stitch & we are just
gonna put this in the second stitch from the hook its a bit tricky with this and single
crochet. Skip 1 slip st into next st then I'm gonna chain one and now I'm gonna turn.
So you can allready see we're getting a chain and a picot bump. Now we're gonna chain 3
or 4 sts. and I'm gonna fasten into the picot area then chain 3 or 4 more sts and this time
I'm just gonna pick a st here and I'm gonna go into it in this little whole here and then
turn again. Then chain some more sts and then go into here this time I will single crochet
into it instead. Then chain 1,2,3 and yarn over & go into the large space here and dble
crochet in the space don't worry if you are not following along exactly, don't worry about
putting the hook into exactly the spaces I'm putting the hook into. If you can't see properly
and you are following along by what I am saying don't fret don't worry about it. This is freeform
it doesn't really matter there is no pattern no wrong way of doing this.. are you loving
this yet? Coz I'm loving it this is a bright cheerful yarn. I like to break the rules I
have this personal touch of instead of using slip stitch I've always got a habit of fastening
it with a single crochet but in freeform it doesn't matter. Ok I'm gonna picot here & we're
just using very basic stitches we're mainly using single crochets. this time in this picot
in the second stitch I am gonna keep single crocheting as many times as I desire or as
many times as i can get it round to what I wanna do ok like this. Then I'm gonna choose
a st here. Another stitch on this round bit and I'm gonna fasten it to it. I'm running
out of yarn now so what I'm gonna do is turn it again and I'm gonna do one or two more
and once again I'm gonna choose any stitch to fasten into in any way I like now I have
only caught one part of the stitch there so I am gonna single crochet over that. So if
you make a mistake like that and you don't go through both loops don't worry just single
crochet over it you can hide your mistakes. I'm getting to the end of the yarn and whats
more there's a knot in my yarn! I'm not even going to worry about that coz its gonna add
texture and this is only a little sample here. Ok I'm going off the screen get up. Its very
difficult to crochet and see what you are doing at the same time :S. I adjust the lamp
This is mine so far how does yours look? Mine is looking nice and flat and that is one thing
I will say about freeform. When you are making pieces like this about palm size and you are
going to sew them all together it is easier I am told to make pieces that are nice and
flat all together so that you can sew all the pieces together easily. But you can make
3d items but its better that your actual scrumbles are normally made as flat pieces. If I just
put this down for one moment. If I pick up once again my shawlette here we can see this here is not flat. This is
a flower and this is not even crochet this is knitting so for those of you who like to
knit aswell you can totally make this. Its just formed round like this its just literally
a strip of knitting that is like erm drawn up tight at one end and wrapped round and
rnd and rnd like this to form a rosette and its just literally stitched on top of a piece
of flat crochet you can see that here so thats a raised piece. Also we have here another
piece of knitting this is flat areas and there's a ribbon yarn that's used in others through
this area which gives it it's dynamic texture here. Here aswell you've got some other areas
of knitting. The idea with knitting is to make it so that your'e not just knittting
a patch in one direction the idea is to use techniques such as short row shaping or you
can simply do things like get a small rectangle and then make a triangle coming off of that.
You could do a knitted patch and then work a shell in crochet or just really whatever
takes your fancy (can't get the word fancy out lol) there'll be no outtakes! because
all my outtakes are gonna be in my video. Ok so going back to this piece now I'm gonna
choose another piece of yarn This time I got a nice white yarn Just gonna make a loop coz
I run out of yarn
and you can join in absolutely anywhere on your piece and once again its desirable if
you work over your ends. Now I'm gonna show you working in another colour just chain 5.
Then just choosing a random stitch there I'm going into that one chain 3 turn working into
the gap there. There is so much more you can do with this I am just doing a very basic
patch (scrumble) just for those of you who are beginners
