it's site some of the stories that were included in detroit pierre also now
happening not just in to try to cross the country
there's a piece of the wall street journal today
about showing the implications in a short sighted nis
of cutting
public transport
in cities and frankly around the country
now understand how this works
the reason why we've had loss of over six hundred thousand government workers
under the old bomber administration
is because of
cutbacks and lack of money coming from the federal government
to city and state governments who had seen a marketing decrease in revenue
because of the devaluation of uh... realestate
because uh...
of uh... php
of slack consumer demand
x ever and
historian wall street journal
not a guy who uh... is
planning to add
a hundred and fifty new
call center positions at dial america's office
in pittsburgh
not necessarily great jobs but
jobs
and it's not function of the tax break there down there it is getting
it's because they had more debate
however
the port authority of allegheny county plans to cut forty six about two hundred
and two bus lines in september that's nearly half fifty percent
while also raising fares by about ten to fifteen percent to close a sixty four
million dollar budget gap
you go back at the beginning of this year when we're talking about the
deficit deal i think was called bad said uh...
build america bonds
which allowed for low-cost loans taken out by states
that republicans quashed
the woulda funded things like transportation
uh... bits of course is being perpetrated by republican governor tom
corbett
more than half of dial america's three hundred pittsburgh employees travel to
work on a bus line slated for elimination
mister griffin a vice president down erica sybil we moved into this complex
number one consideration was to be near public transportation like so there's a
couple of every dynamics that are happening here one you cut public
transportation you're gonna throw people out of work
not only is it going to inhibit the creation of a hundred fifty new jobs
you're probably going to inhibit at least some percentage of those hundred
fifty who take public transport now
so that's dynamic number one you're hurting people your going to hurt the
economy
by not spending that money
another prime example
of how
federal government funding
to help out those cities
would have created more jobs and maintain more jobs
to what it also shows
is just how much private corporations
rely on public services that don't show up in their bottom line
that america does get taxed anymore because they were ally
on their employees to get to their uh... company by public transportation
so what is that america got a bit
they're gonna have to pay more for employees possibly
or they may not just be able to grow
so it's a here we have
in fact
not a case
of one government stop spending
private enterprises bose is able to flourish
but in fact the case
of the lack of public spending on infrastructure
hurts
private businesses
aggregate demand because we have more people are gonna be out of work
is that perfect example
of why we need
government spending government investment in infrastructure government
investment in public transportation
and of course it'll all be
it nor
