Most people who want to tone their muscles, or arms or legs have
the problem that they believe they have these soft or flabby
limbs. They want to replace that with firm arms
and legs where you can tell the contours of the muscles a bit.
What they then most often do is that they
pick a up a small weight and do lots and lots of repetitions with it.
But that can't give you the toning effect you want.
That is for two reasons:
No 1: What makes your arms look soft and flabby is the fat
beneath your skin. Even if you made your muscles bigger
through working out, the fat would still sit on top.
Because the muscle layer sits beneath the fat layer.
No 2: Even if you managed to reduce the fat layer
to make the muscles more visible,
but you kept using these small weights,
you wouldn't get your muscles to grow.
Because your muscles have to work against enough resistance
to get nudged into growing.
If you reduced the fat layer but kept using these small weights,
and did many repetitions,
you would just end up with stick-like arms and legs.
That again means two things:
The first is you have to lose some of the fat layer, that means losing a bit weight.
After that you can see more of the muscle beneath the fat layer.
No 2: To give your muscles incentive to grow
do workouts with weights that give you enough resistance.
That means using weights where you can't do more than 15 repetitions in a set.
If you use a weight you can do more with, you are training endurance
and that doesn't make muscles bigger.
This is especially important for women watching this,
because they in my experience go for the high rep toning workouts.
Women often think if they use difficult weights they in no time
grow to huge proportions and get tons of muscle mass.
But that won't happen, because women largely lack the male
hormone testosterone that is responsible for muscle growth.
Building muscle also takes quite a long time,
so even if you are a woman and do difficult workouts for
months, you won't suddenly stop getting toned and start looking like Hulk.
Once you have the muscle mass you are happy with
you can simply switch to maintaining that muscle and should get the toning effect you want.
If you have more questions about how to tone, ask in the comments!
As always, thank you for watching, until next time, bye-bye!
