Welcome to Towson University’s Cook Library. This short tutorial will show you how to find
a book by title in the library’s catalog. If you have a book in mind and want to see
if the library owns it, you’ll need to click on the Library Catalog under Quick Tools.
If you know the book’s exact title, choose "Title Beginning With" in the drop down menu.
If you’re not sure of the exact title, choose "Title Word/s".
Since I know the book I'm looking for is called “The Structure of American Industry,”
I'll search by "Title Beginning With". Notice that I am not including “The” in
my search, even though my book starts with "The".
If your book starts with The, A, An, etc., do not include it in your search.
If the book is available at Cook Library, you will see it listed here. Click on the
title to learn more about it. On this page you’ll find the components
for your citation, including the book’s author, title and publishing information.
Also notice a book’s location. A book in the stacks can be checked out.
You’ll need to note the call number and check its availability.
If the book’s status is “on shelf”, it is available to borrow.
The call number indicates where the book is located in the library building.
This book, beginning with call letter H, is located on the Cook Library’s 5th floor.
If you need further assistance, visit the reference desk on the library’s main (3rd)
floor, call the reference librarian there at 410.704.2462, send an instant message to
tucookchat, or send a text to 66746 and remember to start
your question with the keyword askcook.
