The current Pure Michigan Hunt winners just started out their year of unforgettable hunting
with their spring turkey season! Jim Bosscher of McBain, Dave Gittins of Kawkawlin, and
Jason Webb of Westland, each bagged a turkey with their 2013 Pure Michigan Hunt spring
turkey licenses. Because they were Pure Michigan Hunt winners, they were able to hunt in any
open turkey unit, any day open for turkey hunting. This allowed them to hunt multiple
units, and take their time in getting the bird they wanted. Jim Bosscher had never turkey
hunted before but he managed to bag his first turkey on the morning of April 30th. Bosscher
took an 18 pound tom in northern Osceola County with the help of National Wild Turkey Federation's
Kelly Bekken and friend Drew Metiva -- helping him with his calling. Dave Gittins was also
new to turkey hunting. Using his Remington 870 shotgun he had won as part of the Pure
Michigan Hunt package, and with some help from Dennis Casselman doing his calling, Gittins
landed his first turkey, a beautiful tom with an eight and a half inch beard. Jason Webb
also harvested a turkey in Ingham County, although this wasn't his first turkey, it
definitely was his biggest. His Pure Michigan Hunt turkey had an eleven inch beard! All
three Pure Michigan Hunt winners had a successful spring turkey hunt. First-time turkey hunter
Dave Gittins says, "The spring turkey season was a great time to be in the woods!" This
fall's hunting seasons are going to be busy for these three, and we'll be following the
winners on their upcoming bear and elk seasons. If you want 2014 to be your hunt of a lifetime
